MacMurray College was a fully accredited, independent, four-year college with a strong liberal arts tradition that closed in the spring of 2020 after 174 years. Its 60-acre former campus was located in west central Illinois in the city of Jacksonville, about 30 miles west of Springfield. All buildings comprising the former campus were sold in late 2020. Founded in 1846 as the Illinois Conference Female Academy, MacMurray College was one of the oldest institutions of higher education originally for women in the United States and one of the oldest private liberal arts colleges in the State of Illinois.
