MacMurray Foundation & Alumni Association formed shortly after MacMurray announced the closure of the college in the spring of 2020. Founded in 1846, the closure meant the end of 174 years of higher education.
Since our formation, we have worked to fulfill our mission of continuing the legacy of MacMurray College. Thanks to many donors who share our passion, we are proud to have upheld and are continuing the legacy of MacMurray College in numerous ways.
As an IRS designated 501©3 charitable organization, donations help support our annual needs as well as restricted for specific purposes as a donor may designate.
Your gift helps us maintain and continue the legacy of the college by supporting:
MacMurray Archives & Collection
We maintain and make public the MacMurray College Archives and the MacMurray Collection, which is housed and displayed in the Mac Hall of the Jacksonville Area Museum. This comes with a cost to the Foundation.
Scholarships to MacFam Community
We give between $50,000 – $65,000 annually in scholarships to members of the MacMurray community (MacFam). Our focus is on making awards to former students, relatives and descendants of alumni, faculty and staff for undergraduate and graduate level education. How much we can award is dependent on donations or designated gifts. For more information go to www.MacAlumFoundation.org/Scholarships.
E-Communications
MacFam News updates through e-communications provides updates on happenings of alumni. Whether it be a wedding, birth, passing, award, honor or other life event, we want to pass along important happenings to share with your fellow alumni. Due to cost, this will be only available electronically. We all want to stay connected; however, this comes with a cost to the Foundation. Again, this comes with a cost.
Alumni Directory
A directory of alumni who the Foundation had an e-mail address for is available for all to access and be part of. Anyone not listed is able to become a part of the directory with a simple e-mail to [email protected].
Alumni Gatherings
MFAA has hosted annual gatherings in Jacksonville on the former campus of the college each year. Past weekends have been in June, with the 2025 weekend schedule for September. Rental costs and fees come with each weekend. We are also hoping
Grants to Organizations with Mission Similar to MacMurray
Beginning in 2025-2026, MFAA will provide some grants to other non-profits, individuals or entities with a mission and purpose related to areas the college was known for.
Annual Operating Expenses
There are regular annual expenses the Foundation and any such organization incurs, including expense related to a website and e-mail addresses, E-Newsletters and other communications, planned alumni activities (Homecomings and Reunions), insurance (ours is more due to the archives and museum), accounting and legal fees, and more. This comes with a cost to the Foundation.
We hope you will help us continue the legacy and impact of MacMurray College.
