MacMurray College has announced that Susan Hall, assistant professor of interpreting, was awarded the Dewey Wilkins Award for Excellence in Teaching and Karen Bade, assistant professor of nursing, received the United Methodist Board of Higher Education Exemplary Teacher of the Year Award.

The Dewey Wilkins Award is jointly decided by faculty and students, and recognizes a full-time member of MacMurray faculty who has completed at least one academic year at MacMurray and who has not received this award in the last three academic years. The award honors the faculty member who best exhibited excellence in teaching with their knowledge of subject matter, creativity and enthusiasm toward teaching, clarity of directions, empathy toward students and a strong commitment to the College.

“I was very humbled to hear the news from Dr. (Beverly) Rodgers,” Hall, who has been at MacMurray for five years, said. “There are a lot of deserving faculty at MacMurray and for both the students and faculty to vote for me, I feel so honored.”

The United Methodist Board of Higher Education Exemplary Teacher of the Year Award is selected by fellow members of MacMurray faculty, and recognizes a full-time member of MacMurray faculty who has completed at least three academic years at MacMurray and who has not received this award in the last four academic years. This award honors the faculty member who best demonstrated excellence in teaching, civility and concern for students and colleagues, commitment to value-centered education, service to students, service to the institution, service to the community and significant contributions to scholarly life at MacMurray College.

“When I received the call from Dr. Rogers I was very humbled and became tearful knowing I have taught with so many wonderful, student-centered faculty at Mac,” said Bade, who has been with the College four and half years. “I have had the opportunity to be mentored by dedicated educators that have the students best interest in mind at each step of their educational journey. I would not be the teacher I am today without the many wonderful role models I have met at MacMurray College.”
